For the visually impaired
The Adult Readers’ Service of the Central Library provides ancillary devices with our visually impaired readers/users, which facilitate reading.
Reading machine
The PRISMA type reading machine installed at our library is capable of magnification in sizes 4 to 30. Image set-up and definition are adjustable. It can be used for reading and writing. The text to be read is presented on a large TV screen (51 cm in diameter). This machine is excellent for the reading of dictionaries, newspapers, encyclopaedias, or texts set in small font size. Our personnel will provide assistance to the use of this machine.
Screen magnifying programme
ZOOM TEXT software has been installed on one of our Internet access PCs, to which a 19-inch monitor has been connected.
Features of this software:
- magnification in size 2 to16;
- improved antialiasing, which corrects the corners and blurs on the magnified text or graphics;
- special magnification window for the text the readers wish to read;
- easy-to-follow screen activity;
- improved colour screening and reverse function for multiple contrast and better visibility;
- supports 16, 256 or more colours in all definitions.
