The on-line catalogue manual of the
Galgóczi Erzsébet City Library
The on-line catalogue is available on the website of the library: www.gevk.hu
If you wish to check the reading materials of the library, please browse the catalogue or use the "Search" and/or "Quick Search" option(s).
This option is available, if you click on the Browsing button. This search mode is usually used, when you do not exactly know the features of the reading material you are looking for, and/or you have only partial information on it. In this case, the programme looks for inexact matches, and it rather lists results that stand the closest to the search definition.
Browsing can be completed in accordance with various aspects, and it can be started by clicking on the desired definition.
The list displayed this way can be viewed, and by clicking on the appropriate definition, you can check the results connected to it.
The elements of the browsing list can be inserted into the search window by clicking on the sign.
This option is available, if you click on the Search button. You can choose, based on which feature of the desired reading material you wish to search, and you must specify the definition to be searched and/or the connection between more definitions if this is the case. If you click on the down arrow, you can shift the field titles shown as default set-up on the search window.
Wildcard characters (truncating, masking)
Wildcard characters can be used in the search term (marked: *). Truncating can substitute any number of characters, but at least 3 characters must be entered (e.g.: muh* ). Masking (marked: ?) can substitute and stand for any single character. For example:
Small and capital letters are equivalent in the search mode the same way as the short and long diacritic marks of the umlauts are (e.g.: "Malmö" and "Malmõ" gives the same amount of results, but "Malmo" would not). You can use the ordinary AND, OR, NO logic operations among the definitions.
The number of results to be shown on one page can be set up.
If you click on the button, you can start searching in the catalogue, and if you click on the button, you can delete the search mode definitions inserted in the search window.
The previous searches giving results are shown numbered in the "Previous Searches" window. (If you do not use it for thirty minutes, the programme will omit this option.)
If you wish to redo a search, or you need to expand and/or focus a search, you should click on it again, and the programme will retype it in the search window.
It is recommended to use the "Quick Search" mode, if you do not need explicit search. Wildcard characters can be applied here as well, and you can type in more words to the title, of which connection the programme will interpret as an AND logic operation.
The results operate as links. The more explicit description of the items shown as results, as well as the results of the search mode can be viewed, if you click on the title. The bibliographical description of the defined reading material is shown in a titled format in the default set-up, but you can also choose the MARC format. The "Stock Data" chart shows how many copies of the given reading materials are available in the library and what lending status they have.
